Julian Bell é pintor e ensina história e teoria da arte na City & Guilds of London Art School. Colabora regularmente como crítico de arte e de livros nas revistas London Review of Books e The Times Literary Supplement e no jornal The Guardian. É também autor de What is Painting? Representation and Modern Art (Thames & Hudson, 1999) e 500 Self-Portraits (Phaidon, 2000).
